I was recently asked this question and here is my answer:

What if, instead of managing your time, you thought in terms of managing your commitments?

As indicated in your question, it isn’t just about the time but more about the energy you can bring to everything you are doing.

As an initial step, I would suggest tracking everything you do for a day – from the instant you wake up to the moment you go to sleep. It isn’t just what do you but how you do it.

It is equally about learning to distinguish between what gives you energy and what sucks energy from you.

At the end of the day, ask yourself:

  • What have I learnt?
  • What might I stop doing?
  • What might I do differently?
