Philosophy

My practice has many parents and is constantly evolving. The approach is playful and minimalist in nature so the intention is not to create longer to do lists. Instead it offers a lightness and freedom for you to go where you need to go.

In corporate speak it is agile (nimble and focus on you over process). The purpose is to facilitate a conversation with yourself that allows you to experience yourself in a different way. Depending on where you are on your life journey different themes may arise. It is not about me posing clever questions. It is much more listening for what you would like to ask yourself. At its core, it offers simplicity and is ultimately about slowing down the conversation to allow you to truly hear your mind, body and soul.

At the speeds at which we live and in an era of distractions, it is hard to hear much at all. It is often only when we step out of time that many people realise what it is they truly need to talk about. Unlike many approaches, my philosophy is not centred around goals. In my experience, goals emerge as a consequence of something else. They are a means, not an end. The question is more who are you becoming?

Nuts and Bolts

I am a coach by inclination and by training. Coaching can only work in a safe and trusting environment. This first and foremost means complete confidentiality. It also means listening carefully to what you have to say in a non-judgemental manner.

I help people slow down, pick through the stories they tell themselves and let new stories emerge that are more insightful and helpful. My coaching style is focussed on where you are now and where you want to go, not on past decisions and choices. You are the person you are today because of your life journey but it won’t necessarily define who you are tomorrow. In essence, where you have come from isn’t as important as where you are going – but if something is holding you back it may need to be acknowledged and explored.

My role is therefore to support and facilitate you in reflecting upon and identifying what you want to achieve and to take the next step that will move you towards it. Coaching is not so much about telling or advising so my role is primarily to create awareness and, when necessary, challenge but always in a caring way. It is important to be clear, however, that any goals or actions identified during the coaching process will be entirely decided by you. As indicated in the sidebar, there may be times during the process when you feel it may be appropriate for me to switch hats and to provide mentoring or training in service of your future.
